President's Welcome
Welcome players, parents, family members and friends to another exciting season of Sunnyvale Cupertino PONY Baseball! Our board members have been working since November to get ready for our season, including getting word out to all of you then conducting our player registration and try-outs, buying and preparing baseball equipment, uniforms and supplies, arranging rules, schedules and umpires for interlock games with local leagues, getting ball fields reserved and prepped with the City of Sunnyvale, signing up our league sponsors and preparing for Opening Day festivities.
We are part of the Central Region of the NorCal Division of the Western Zone of the PONY nation-wide organization. The PONY Baseball organization started in 1951 in Pennsylvania and has graduated over 800 players into the major leagues including Tim Lincecum, BarryBonds, Jeff Kent, JT Snow, Robb Nenn, Will Clark, Mark McGwire, Ricky Henderson, Randy Johnson, Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey, Nolan Ryan, A-Rod and Troy Tulowitzki. More information on PONY Baseball can be found by clicking the PONY link on our website.
We’re excited about the new season as we have a lot of new, talented players on our two Pony division teams and we’ll be fielding Colt division teams for the first time. We have over 30 players that have played on our Pony teams that have been invited to play for our Colt teams that will start their 7 week regular season in May against teams from other local leagues. Our Pony teams will play a 21 game regular season interlocking with high-caliber competition from LA-MV, Saratoga, Los Gatos, San Jose Pacific and, for the first time, Santa Clara. Then, they’ll play a best of 5 series for our league championship. In July, we’ll field our best Pony players in the Pony division’s Central Region All Star Tournament.
For our Pony players, we hope all of you will:
- improve your baseball skills
- have fun playing baseball and being part of our league
- learn more about teamwork, sportsmanship and competition.
If you’re not enjoying your experience with us, please talk to any of our board members, and we’ll do whatever possible to make things right. And, at the end of the season, if you enjoyed your season, we encourage you and your parents to tell others about our league for next season.
You’ve practiced hard the past 7 weeks and now it’s time to Play Ball!
